Its technology enables clinicians to book shifts that match their preferences while helping NHS organizations and healthcare providers manage staffing more efficiently. By reducing reliance on agencies and streamlining workforce operations, Patchwork Health supports cost-effective workforce planning, improves staff well-being, and enhances the overall quality of patient care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patchwork Health has experienced significant growth over the past few years, with its technology becoming a key solution in the UK healthcare market. As the team prepared for its next phase of expansion, they sought additional support – bringing in experienced Ruby developers and QA specialists to help strengthen and scale their platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joining the project, the Code and Pepper team focused on refining the platform – restructuring the architecture, optimizing the code, and introducing new functionalities. Their impact was immediately recognized by some of Patchwork\u2019s healthcare clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project\u2019s engineering team is made up of several specialized groups, each dedicated to developing key modules that enable healthcare professionals to manage their schedules independently while giving medical organizations the tools to oversee workforce operations. The platform is also designed to align with UK labor regulations, ensuring compliance and efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n

Sneak peek into the technology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Currently, it is a monolith \u2013 this solution allows you to quickly adopt new functionalities, which is very important in the case of a growing scale-up. For the purposes of the project, two microservices have been created, written in Ruby and Python.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teamwork<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The team is divided into smaller units, with some members responsible for maintaining the company\u2019s core product while others focus on implementing new solutions. This structure requires a deep understanding of the different areas of app operation and their interdependencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enhancements are also being made to the module that manages clinicians\u2019 schedules, which will become one of Patchwork\u2019s core products. This requires the development of engines that account for regulations related to ensuring breaks between on-call and working days. This solution also simplifies the process for employees to apply for leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The future <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the near future, the plan for the tech team is to improve the UX of the booking process for a given shift by updating the current views and improving workforce wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
